History Brought to Life
By Elizabeth Burden
On Monday, October, 24th Hamilton Elementary 5th and 6th grade students, accompanied by their teacher, Mrs. Burden, Superintendent, Ms. Lowman, and para-educator, Mrs. Haas, traveled to Wichita to the Museum of World Treasures. The students took a guided tour by, Tim Howard, who helped them reenact what it would be like to be present at an ancient Egyptian mummification. Another area of the museum the students found particularly interesting was the Founding of America; A Revolutionary Success. This is a unit the students are currently studying. They were able to see artifacts that were present during this time period along with completing activities and answering question about the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence. Other exhibits that they found interesting were the dinosaurs and fossils, war paraphernalia, and the children’s activity center. On the way back to school Ms. Lowman treated the student to an ice cream cone. The students enjoyed the trip and were able to bring history a little closer with this educational trip to the museum.
